Uruguayan Nacional defeated Chilean Ancud in Montevideo 90-73. Nacional looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Chilean-Spanish center Manny Suarez (208-1993, college: Creighton) stepped up and scored 24 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American-Dominican center James Feldeine (193-1988, college: Quinnipiac) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. At the losing side American forward Derrick Woods (203-1996, college: St.Peter's, agency: SLN) responded with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ancud will play next round against strong Espanol trying to get back on the winning streak. Nacional will try to continue on its current victory against San Lorenzo in Almagro.
Ecuadorian Santa Maria recorded a loss in Osorno. Visitors were rolled over by Chilean Espanol 98-73. American guard Delano Spencer (193-1994, college: Tennessee St.) nailed 24 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Jordan Cardenas accounted for 15 points and 10 rebounds. American KJ Hinds (198-1995, college: Redlands CC) came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Santa Maria in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Espanol will play against Ancud at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Santa Maria will have a break next round.
